POSITION TITLE: Assistant Cook
SCHOOL: Meadow View Grade
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Cook assists with food preparation and serving, and may supervise kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Cook. To accomplish these tasks, the Assistant Cook must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 506.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Head Cook
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Assist in preparing and serving food.
- Assist the Head Cook in kitchen operations.
- Assist in directing the activities of other employees.
- Assist in cleaning kitchen equipment.
- Maintain proper sanitary safety practices and standards.
- See that district policies are observed during all activities.
- Keep abreast of new information, regulations, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Attend professional meetings as approved by the Superintendent.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Supervise kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Cook.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
- Support the value of an education.
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD 506.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Cook or Administrative Staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must work in and around fumes and odors.
- Personal cleanliness and neatness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Interested in good nutrition and willing to learn efficient methods of food preparation and service.
- Annual health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
- Desire to continue career improvement.
- Must be able to attend a minimum of 6 hours staff training annually
- Must have a current Food Safety Basic Certification, or be willing to attend training within 6 months of hiring date (this training will also count towards the 6 hours of staff training)
